Minnesota women’s basketball recruit Carlie Wagner reiterated to the Star Tribune that she remains completely committed to the Gophers despite the coaching change.
The four-star recruit from New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva committed to former coach Pam Borton. After Borton was fired, Wagner said she didn’t waver on her decision, noting her attraction to the Minnesota campus and comfort level with the team.
Wagner said new coach Marlene Stollings reached out to her shortly after getting hired. “I felt really comfortable with her,” Wagner said. “I know she likes to run-and-gun, fast-paced game and that’s what I love to do, so I’m really excited for that aspect, too.”
• Nikita (Niki) Dawkins will be one of Stollings’ assistants and the recruiting coordinator, it was announced Friday. Dawkins held the same position under Stollings the past two seasons at Virginia Commonwealth. Dawkins played at Ohio State in the late 1980s and was on three gold-medal-winning U.S. women’s basketball teams in the Olympics. She has been an assistant coach at OSU and Michigan.
