MANKATO -- It should be a busy first day of training camp for the Vikings on Friday.
Of course we'll be monitoring the contract situation with second-round pick Toby Gerhart. As of Thursday night, Gerhart was the lone draft pick who had not signed and is not in camp. The players selected immediately before and after Gerhart have reached deals so the parameters should be in place for a Gerhart deal.
Coach Brad Childress will hold his pre-camp press conference at 3:15 p.m. central and the players take the field at 4 p.m.
Lots of things to keep an eye on today. Adrian Peterson is sure to get a lot of attention after staying away from Winter Park almost all of the offseason. Peterson vowed at the end of last season to fix his fumble problems so we'll see if he has made any noticeable changes in the way he carries the ball and hopefully hear from him after the practice.
We'll also get a better idea of how serious Sidney Rice's hip injury is. Rice didn't sound overly concerned when we talked to him a few weeks ago but it's not clear whether he will be cleared to practice full speed from the start.
We also could see E.J. Henderson back on the field practicing for the first time since suffering a broken leg last December. Henderson said on Thursday that a decision had not been made about whether he would open camp on the PUP. But that certainly would be a big moment for him and the team if he is cleared to practice today.
Those are just a few things highlighted on what will be a busy first day at camp. Make sure and check back throughout the day for updates.
