The following dispatch ran on the front page of the Minneapolis Tribune on Sunday, June 29, 1969, topped by this note: "Pfc. Tim O'Brien, a 1968 graduate of Macalester College from Worthington, Minn., is an infantryman in Vietnam, 'a shock that still gives sleepless nights but is mitigated every few weeks by letters from a beautiful girl.'
