It was like being inside a disco ball. The tent spanned a full city block. Overhead hung miles of shimmering gold chain. Underfoot a plush gold carpet transformed the Minneapolis Institute of Art's lawn into a red carpet, dance floor and party palace all in one. The institute throws a Summer Party every year. But it upped the ante this time around to mark the MIA's milestone birthday — 100 years of displaying art. In addition to the dazzling display, more than 1,000 guests were treated to music by local acts Allan Kingdom, Tiiiiiiiiiip and Caroline Smith and DJ Chromeo. The following night, the MIA hosted a black-tie gala dinner. Together, the two events helped usher one of the most prominent museums in the Midwest into its next 100 years.
