Danny Valencia has passed the fitness test and is in tonight's lineup. He threw and hit before the game and convinced manager Ron Gardenhire that he's ready to go.

``I asked him if the arm bothers him a little bit,'' Gardenhire said. ``He said. `I'm not going to tell the manager.' ''

Jim Thome (back/quad) will face Kevin Slowey and Jeff Manship during the simulated game on Wednesday in Fort Myers, Fla.

Tsuyoshi Nishioka is batting eighth, in front of pitcher Carl Pavano.

This is one pesky Giants team, even with Buster Posey and Freddy Sanchez injured. San Francisco already has 20 comeback wins.

An A.L. East scout at the game pointed out that the Twins trail Detroit by just five games, and many believe that's the team the Twins need to keep pace with until they can get more of their regulars back in the lineup

Gardy said he has Nishi batting eighth to have speed in front of the pitcher's spot. He repeated that he would like to move Nishioka back toward the top of the order once he's ready. It looks like Alexi Casilla will have something to say about that.
