Greetings from Florida, where the weather is perfect.
There, I got that out of the way. If ever mention the weather again, it will be when it stinks. If I write nothing about weather, that means it's awesome outside.
If I read the schedule correctly, these are the pitchers who are throwing today, by group:
Duffey, Perkins, Runzler, Rogers, Chargois (the "R" is silent, BTW).
Milone, Nolasco, Tonkin, Thompson, Burdi
Fien, Graham, Boshers, Strong, Landa.
There is at least one pitcher in each group who throws 95 miles an hour.
It's not about which position players have arrived yet. So many are here now, it's easier to list who is NOT here yet.
That group includes Ryan Sweeney, Joe Mauer, Kennys Vargas, Eduardo Nunez, James Beresford, Carlos Quentin, Trevor Plouffe and Brian Dozier. The rest of the position players are here and will be working out on the back fields of the CenturyLink Sports Complex. Position players are not required to report until Friday, with the first full squad workout on Saturday.
I talked with righthander Phil Hughes, who admitted his back problems gave him more trouble last year than he let on. He spent the offseason working on core strength and feels really good coming into camp. Check the dead tree and online editions for more from Hughes on that subject.
Paul Molitor addressed the players this morning, introduced coaches and staff and did general housekeeping stuff. The team then took the field for warmups.
Korean media has arrived to cover Byung Ho Park. One media member just said he flew 8,000 miles over 23 hours to get here. Wow/.
Check back later for more updates.
