Sideline report

Jailhouse rock

“Scared Straight” meets “Undercover Boss” in another season of “60 Days In,” the wildly perilous experiment in which civilians pretend to be inmates in Atlanta’s Fulton County Jail. A writer’s life

Before being celebrated as the creator of PBS’ “Tales of the City,” Armistead Maupin was a closeted gay staffer for conservative Sen. Jesse Helms and a daily newspaper columnist. His believe-it-or-not back story is told in “The Untold Tales of Armistead Maupin,” a touching documentary every bit as moving as his landmark miniseries. Its stars, Laura Linney, Olympia Dukakis and Ian McKellen, all offer their takes on the writer in this “Independent Lens” installment.
