Raptors rip Mavs, move to 4-0
DALLAS – Kyle Lowry scored 27 points, and the Toronto Raptors spoiled Dallas' home opener, beating the Mavericks 102-91 on Tuesday night for the first 4-0 start in franchise history.
"I think it was the start that we needed," Lowry said. "Either we could have a real good start, or a tough start with pretty much 10 new guys. But I think we've done a good job of just staying focused with our principles."
The Raptors took the lead for good on a 12-0 run that started in the middle of the fourth quarter. Jonas Valanciunas scored six of his 16 points during the stretch.
Lowry had a game-high 10 assists, and Toronto held Dallas to 6-for-22 shooting in the fourth quarter and 38 percent for the game.
Deron Williams scored 13 points in his home debut for the Mavericks. Dallas forward Dwight Powell recorded his first career double-double with 10 points, all in the first half, and 10 rebounds.
•NUGGETS DROP LAKERS TO 0-4: Kenneth Faried scored 28 points and grabbed 18 rebounds, leading visiting Denver to a 120-109 victory over Los Angeles. Danilo Gallinari chipped in 21 points for the Nuggets (2-2). Jordan Clarkson scored 30 to lead the Lakers, while Kobe Bryant finished with 11 points on 4-for-11 shooting.
•RANDOLPH POWERS GRIZZLIES' WIN: Zach Randolph scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading visiting Memphis to a 103-89 victory over Sacramento. The Grizzlies were eager to rebound following a franchise-worst 50-point loss to Golden State on Monday.
•BALANCED HAWKS BURN HEAT: Jeff Teague used his speed to break down the Miami defense time and again on his way to 26 points and nine assists, Al Horford scored 17 points and the visiting Hawks saw what was a 15-point lead trimmed to four midway through the fourth quarter before beating the Heat 98-92. Paul Millsap had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Kent Bazemore added 10 points for Atlanta.
•PACERS HAND PISTONS THEIR FIRST LOSS: Rodney Stuckey scored 23 points against his former team, leading visiting Indiana to a 94-82 victory at Detroit. The victory was the first in four games this season for the Pacers. Andre Drummond scored 25 points and added 29 rebounds for Detroit.
•MAGIC EARNS FIRST WIN: Evan Fournier capped a 30-point performance with a pair of three-pointers in the final 1:13 and visiting Orlando won for the first time, 103-94 over winless New Orleans. Nikola Vucevic scored 22 points and Victor Oladipo 12 for the Magic.
•HORNETS BLOW OUT BULLS: Jeremy Lamb scored 20 points on 9-for-10 shooting, Nicolas Batum added 18 points and Charlotte cruised to its first victory of the season, 130-105 over visiting Chicago. Jeremy Lin scored 15 points, Al Jefferson scored 14 and Spencer Hawes chipped in with 13 for Charlotte.
