Keith Ellison

Keith Ellison

The first Muslim elected to Congress, Ellison prevailed in a hard-fought contest for the Democratic nomination, which has long been tantamount to election in the Fifth District. A Minneapolis attorney and activist before serving two terms in the Minnesota House, Ellison says that five core values direct his work as a legislator: Peace, support for our veterans, prosperity for working families, environmental sustainability, and civil and human rights.

A passionate liberal, Ellison attracts attention and controversy, as when he chose to swear his oath of office on a copy of the Koran.

Ellison, however, is in a safe DFL district.
