Surging Sharks handle Blues
ST. LOUIS – Joonas Donskoi and Joe Thornton scored in the second period, Martin Jones made 26 saves and the San Jose Sharks beat the St. Louis Blues 3-1 on Thursday night.
Matt Nieto added an unassisted goal late in the third to give San Jose insurance. The Sharks, who are 8-1-2 in their past 11 games, improved to 17-7-2 away from home and tied Washington for the most road victories in the NHL.
Both goals for San Jose came during a four-minute span in the second.
Donskoi banked a shot off the near post to break the scoreless tie at 3:55. He has 10 points, including four goals, in his past 12 games.
Donskoi's goal snapped a shutout streak of 96 minutes, 59 seconds for Blues goalie Brian Elliott.

•PANTHERS POWER: Vincent Trocheck scored twice and added an assist, Jaromir Jagr had a goal and two assists and the Panthers beat the Red Wings 6-3 in Sunrise, Fla. Roberto Luongo stopped 35 shots for Florida, which has won five in a row.
•DIVING INSTRUCTOR: Jets forward Alexander Burmistrov has been fined $2,000 for diving/embellishment. His second citation, which triggered the fine, was over a tripping penalty in the third period against Arizona on Jan. 26.
•HAVING A SEAT: Penguins center Evgeni Malkin is dealing with a lower-body injury and will miss a two-game road trip.
