Hats thrown on the ice after Edina senior defenseman Tyler Nanne completed his first-period hat trick against Stillwater.

Local radio stations that routinely broadcast boys’ hockey games in Roseau, the northwestern Minnesota hockey-mad town with a population of 2,607. Both stations were at Xcel Energy Center — set up side by side on press row — for Thursday’s quarterfinal game against Lakeville North.

Tyler Nanne, Edina: Scored four goals — three in the first period — in Edina’s 6-1 quarterfinal victory over Stillwater.

Zach Yon, Roseau: The Mr. Hockey finalist turned in an incredible performance against Lakeville North, finishing with 14 shots on goal.

Jack Sullivan, Eden Prairie: The senior forward scored twice in the opening 4:52 of the first period as the Eagles built a 3-0 lead and eventually hung on for a 4-3 triumph over Centennial.

 

Attendance: 15,582 for the afternoon session, the lowest number for the big-schools’ opening session since 15,295 showed up in 1999, and 17,979 in the night session.
