Three people were shot and injured early Monday in two separate shooting incidents in downtown Minneapolis.

A man and a woman were hurt in the first shooting, which took place just before 2 a.m. near S. 5th Street and Hennepin Avenue, according to police.

Off-duty officers who were working nearby witnessed the shooting, and one chased the suspect on foot to a nearby parking lot. Officials said the suspect, who was armed, was attempting to get away in a vehicle before he was arrested. Police recovered a gun from the scene.

The male victim, who was shot in the back, was treated for non-critical injuries at Hennepin County Medical Center. The woman, who was shot in the hip, underwent surgery at HCMC; police said Monday that she was in stable condition.

The suspect was booked at the Hennepin County jail.

About 20 minutes later, police working near N. 5th Street and 2nd Avenue N. heard several gunshots and found a man whose head had been grazed by a bullet. The victim was treated at HCMC.

Police said they were reviewing footage from surveillance cameras and plan to speak with nearby business owners over the next several days.

Officials have not said whether they believe the two incidents are connected.
