You can save addresses from Express list

Q I am concerned that Outlook Express is being phased out by Microsoft, even though I've taken the trouble to get new copies of the software for each successive new PC. Is there a way to "transfer" my Contacts from Microsoft Outlook Express to another address book software on my PC?

A spoonful of sugar

The LeapFrog Didj handheld game machine lets grade-school youngsters play action shoot-'em-ups while learning math, spelling and languages. The device, about as big as the Nintendo DS, has 10 software titles featuring characters from "Star Wars," the "Indiana Jones" movies and "SpongeBob SquarePants." Each game includes brief interludes that require children to answer simple math and spelling questions. An online system, called Learning Path, lets parents customize the questions to reflect what the child is learning in school. The device connects to Macs and PCs via USB. The Didj costs $90 and comes in gray or pink. Games are $30.

Gadgets

Memorex's SimpleSave Photo & Video Backup DVDs can help photographers and videographers back up their work. The software is right on the recordable discs, which work with Windows 2000 and later. Once the disc is inserted, the onboard software starts automatically and searches the PC for photo and video files. In addition to the common JPEG, MPEG, QuickTime and Windows Media Video files, the disc's program recognizes dozens of other file formats. Each DVD stores about 4.4 gigabytes of files and can be used only once.

PC can't read Mac-formatted backup drive

Q I use a 1-gigabyte USB flash drive to move files between my Windows laptop PC at work and my MacBook portable at home. But that doesn't work with the 160-gigabyte external drive I use to back up my MacBook; my Windows laptop doesn't even recognize the external drive when it's connected. What's the problem?

Reader inquiry: Teenagers -- are you sitting still?

At age 9, kids are jumping beans. By age 15, they pretty much stop moving, a study shows.  We're looking for a few teenagers (and their parents) to talk about why it's hard to stay active. Email Josephine Marcotty at marcotty@startribune.com or call her at 612-673-7394.

Data storage: Room to grow?

Recent growth in the data storage sector hasn't been reflected in its stock prices.

Fans of Apple in Tokyo line the block for iPhone 3G

The cool factor helped build interest for the product in Japan, which already has almost as many cell phones as people.
