8 p.m. • Mill City Nights • 16-plus • $17.50-$20
Unless you were a band kid oblivious to the ridiculousness of checkered Vans, you probably missed the ska train. But as skanking fodder goes, the brawny punch packed by this New Jersey septet has some (some) broader appeal. Frontman Tomas Kalnoky's guitar work shifts from happy-go-lucky upstroking to distorted bounces and gypsy flitting, while the brass section sounds more like a seasoned street band than a giddy-and-geeky accomplice. Initially due this month, the band's first album of originals since 2007 has been delayed until next year, due to Kalnoky's studio finicking. Hostage Calm and Lionize open.MICHAEL RIETMULDER

Since selling out First Avenue's mainroom last fall, the rascally Twin Cities rapper has continued his momentum with strong festival outings at Soundset and Summer Set, despite being stuck on the latter's tiny second stage. The irreverent emcee draws down his "KVP Tour" supporting his latest poop-joke-laden mixtape with a pair of sold-out Entry gigs before hitting the road later this month supporting the Grouch and Eligh.M.R.
