What began as a plan to break up with her boyfriend turned into a night of terror for a 21-year-old St. Paul woman, who was held prisoner in his East Side home, forced into a dog kennel and beaten repeatedly, according to a criminal complaint.
Luke B. Scott, 29, has been charged with first- and second-degree assault, making terroristic threats and false imprisonment. Police say he became enraged when the woman went to his home in the 1200 block of Reaney Avenue about 10 p.m. Sunday and told him she wanted to break off their three-month relationship.
According to the complaint, when the woman tried to leave, Scott locked the door with a key -- the only way the door could be unlocked. When she yelled for help, he began punching her in the face, head and shoulders, the complaint says.
He then shoved her into a dog kennel. The woman told police she went into the kennel believing that would stop the assaults, but it didn't. After a while, the complaint says, he dragged her out and resumed beating her.
At one point, the complaint says, she managed to get out the back door, but a 6-foot fence kept her from escaping and a gate was padlocked. She was dragged back into the house.
The woman told police she grabbed Scott's small dog, thinking that would stop the assaults. Instead, the complaint says, he grabbed the dog and threw it against a wall. He pointed a knife at her, the complaint says, and said he would slit her throat.
During a lull in the attack, about 5 a.m., she broke a front window and tried to escape. Scott then hit her in the face with a large bottle, the complaint says, and the woman could no longer see, because of the blood and/or swelling.
Police were alerted and arrived about 6 a.m., ending the ordeal. Scott is being held at Ramsey County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
The woman was hospitalized with injuries that included a right cheek swollen from an apparent human bite, the complaint says. Several of her teeth were loosened in the attack, and one that was fractured could not be saved.
