A man who drowned in the St. Croix River over the weekend has been identified by the Ramsey County medical examiners office as Juan Gabriel Diaz, 40, of West St. Paul.
Diaz was with his family at Point Douglas Park and Beach in Denmark Township near Hastings when he went under water about 5:05 p.m. Sunday where the river is 10-15 feet deep, authorities said.
Efforts to locate him were unsuccessful, and divers and other emergency personnel were called to the scene. His body was recovered just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is awaiting a final report on an official cause of death.
