Jerry Zgoda missed the entire Kevin Garnett era, but he's back covering the Timberwolves after working the beat for their first four seasons two decades ago. In between, he covered a bit of everything: Gopher men's and women's basketball and NCAA athletics, golf, outdoor recreation, sports media and a little Vikings and Twins.

Have the Wolves hit rock bottom?

Posted by: Kent Youngblood under Wolves postgame Updated: March 20, 2011 - 7:42 PM

Greetings. Youngblood here for the final time tonight

So, fans, was this the lowest point of the season?

I know, I know. There is so much competition in this department. But I think, given the opposition Sunday, a 32-point loss -- tied for the second-worst home loss in franchise history -- to the lowly Kings has got to be top billing.

Or is that bottom billing?

Before anyone starts making excuses, I don't think things would have been much different had Beasley been 100 percent and Love not gotten hurt. The Kings had more energy, period. Wolves coach Kurt Rambis said the entire pre-game talk centered around bringing energy. The team that worked hardest would win.

So, now the  Wolves have a killer stretch coming up. I know they tend to play better against the good teams. Still, this could get even uglier. There is a lot to criticize here.

--I know Beasley's hip wasn't 100 percent. But he goes out and gets two fouls and gets a technical in the first 2:21 of play? This is a guy thinking team first?

--Wes Johnson gets 29 vs. the Lakers, then gets four against the Kings? In 21:43 of playing time? To be fair, he was one of only three Wolves players not to turn the ball over.  (The others: Love and Lazar Hayward).

--Anthony Randolph scored 14 on 6-for-11 shooting. He had some energy. But seven turnovers? Really?

--Meanwhile, without Love, Darko Milicic allowed the Kings to have their way in the paint. The Wolves had a season-low 27 rebounds, The Kings had 47. Milicic started out strong offensively, scoring 10 points with two rebounds in the first quarter. After that? Three points and four rebounds the rest of the way.

--The team didn't have an immediate update on Love after the game. Given that the team isn't practicing Monday, we probably won't know more until Tuesday.

That's about it for now. Have a good night.
