How 'bout we go with the ol' good news-bad news thing after the Wolves lost their fifth straight game, their 30th in 39 games so far this season and the four-game season series to the Spurs on Tuesday night at Target Center?

So what will it be first after this 107-96 defeat?

How 'bout the good?

Well, they're not the Cleveland Cavs...

I rubbed my eyes twice while writing my game story tonight when I saw fellow scribes tweeting the score updates of the Lakers-Cavs game from Staples Center.

72-27 in the third quarter?

Could that be right?

Yep.

The final :112-57, a score so lopsided that LeBron started tweeting about karma :

"Crazy. Karma is a b****.. Gets you every time. Its not good to wish bad on anybody. God sees everything!"

So God wants the Cavs to lose and LeBron to win?

What a bunch of horse hockey...

So where does that leave the Wolves in this karmic game called life?

Well, probably without Michael Beasley for Thursday's game against Washington and perhaps beyond, for starters.

Beasley injured his left ankle for the third time in as many games when his foot collided with Tim Duncan's after he made a three in the game's final four minutes.

He was helped to the locker room and later hobbled from the training room to his locker.

He called the ankle "bad" and said the difference this time after hurting it Friday against Portland and Sunday in San Antonio is "I really can't walk this time."

When asked if it might be best to shut it down for awhile, he said yes and said the ankle needs rest for "a couple days."

That probably means Thursday at the very least, quite possibly Saturday's game against Orlando as well.

Funny thing about Tuesday's game: Beasley, probably the most emotional guy on the team, was one guy who didn't get rung up for a `T' when Kenny Mauer handed out five in 10 seconds during the third quarter.

Oddly, Corey Brewer and Darko Milicic got them always simulateously to start things.

Then Kurt Rambis approached Mauer -- I guess this proves that Joe isn't the only Mauer who paying sports fans will come downtown to see -- and got two consecutively himself.

That got him ejected from the game, of course.

And then Kevin Love got one 10 seconds later for good measures.

Sheesh, Mauer got more defensive than the Wolves ever have been this season.

The Wolves trailed by six when the whistling started.

They were down by 11 after the five made free throws and never got closer than seven again.

"I've never seen that before, 5 in a row like that," Love said. "That had to have been almost a first. That was vrazy."

When asked what happened on his T, Love said, "I went up for a rebound, saw something different and felt something different and said, `Hey, c'mon.' And that was it. That was the tech.

"I like my money so I don't want to say anything too outlandish here."

During one timeout, he came off the floor and told teammate Luke Ridnour, "They're not going to call anything."

Somebody asked Love if those five technicals in 10 seconds might be a respect thing, like...the four-time NBA champion Spurs have it and the Wolves don't.

He shook his head affirmatively up and down but gestured as if buttoning his lips.

"You said it, you said it right there," he said. "If I could talk, that's what I'd say."

That's all I got from Target Center here Tuesday night.

Wolves practice Wednesday afternoon and face rookie John Wall and former coach Flip Saunders Thursday at Target Center.

I've got practice tomorrow and then Kent's got the team for the next four days while I take a little time off on my way to Portland for a two-game trip next week against the Blazers and Clippers.

Blog at you later.

Good night.
