PG postmortem

Reaction to the Timberwolves draft was, uh, mixed at best from fans inside Target Center and on the Internet. Players, too. Kevin Love expressed some concern, Tweeting "what are we doing????????????????? omg we better trade....what are we doing??????????? i dont even know" during the first round. ¶ Here are some fan comments, also via the World Wide Web:

secondeye You know what, at worst, the Wolves are hedging their bet on two great point guard prospects, hoping one becomes their future star. The real crap that people should be doing their patented groan and whine posting about is the pathetic trade at #18. You take ANOTHER PG for Denver, and get a future first rounder that is probably more likely to be a WORSE pick than you had. And who knows how deep those drafts will be. The pick they get is only theirs if Charlotte picks 13 or worse next year, 11 or worse in 2011, 9 or worse in 2012, and then 4 or worse in 2013 and beyond that unprotected (but we'll all be dead by then according to the Mayans). With Charlotte on the verge of the playoffs last year, we could end up with a worse pick.

bappelholm Even if Kahn knew Rubio wasn't eager to play in a cold weather city, I wonder if Kahn drafted Rubio to use as an asset to trade in next year's draft in order to get a big man to play center i.e. Cole Aldrich. Because he now has Flynn to play point guard and Ellington as the outside shooter, he can let (or encourage) Rubio to go back to Spain and play this upcoming season. Then, when next year's draft comes, Rubio's contract issues are resolved with his Spanish team, he is still a very valuable asset (maybe worthy of a trade for the #1 pick) and Kahn can trade his rights to another team to move up in the draft to select a true center.

laser1X I could let my son do the draft and come with better picks than the Wolves. McHale to his credit would make some decent picks and then trade them away, transforming himself from genius to idiot status. This draft makes no sense whatsoever. Foye was decent and I don't think any of the players drafted will exceed his production. Rubio plays Euro ball, this is a world apart from the NBA. Does he have the speed, athletic ability and shooting poise to be a major factor in the NBA? I would say HELL no! They should have packaged some players and/or picks to get Griffin at No. 1. Then maybe with anything left they could have gone for Curry. Plus, why dump Lawson? He only won a national championship last year. The Wolves management makes the Vikings front office look like the Patriots!

Randallww Ricky Rubio = JJ Reddick = Adam Morrison

Skol Vikings!

I made this championship belt for the push to the '09 Division Title. Gladden offered to buy it; I wanted a trade for one of his rings. He declined.
