• Leverage five draft picks -- three first-rounders, two second-rounders -- as well as a collection of expiring contracts and current players into two or three high first-round picks or promising young players acquired on draft night.
• Hire a head coach. News reports make longtime NBA point guard Mark Jackson the favorite, but Kahn maintains he has no list of candidates and won't begin to form one until after Thursday's draft.
• Decide if he wants to retain front-office executives Fred Hoiberg, Jim Stack, Rob Babcock and Zarko Durisic (it's believed the contracts of Stack and Hoiberg expire July 1) or hire their replacements or a whole new front office.
• Determine whether to re-sign Rodney Carney and wish Shelden Williams well. Both players become unrestricted free agents on July 1.
• Wait at the fax machine for guard Bobby Brown to exercise by July 1 his $736,420 player option for next season.
• Seek to address needs not filled on draft night when the NBA's free agency period begins July 1.
• Make sure he has an extra cell-phone battery.
