Mystery potatoes have made their way to the Timberwolves.

OK, let's back up.

Maybe the potatoes aren't a complete mystery anymore. USA Today's For The Win blog cracked the code recently, determining that it was the owner of Potato Parcel that has been sending NBA players personalized potatoes.

They was perhaps more intrigue when Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Durant and others tweeted about randomly getting potatoes in the mail. Nowitzki's potato tweet went viral, with more than 40,000 retweets and 120,000 likes as of Tuesday.

For The Win reported that every starter in the NBA was sent a personalized potato, so naturally I wondered: what has been the reaction among the Timberwolves?

I was able to talk Tuesday morning to two of the starting five — Karl-Anthony Towns and Ricky Rubio. Sadly, the Wolves have been on the road for about a week and Towns said he hasn't checked his mail yet.

"I don't know where my potato is," Towns said, promising that, "I'll check my mail tomorrow."

Rubio, however, is a little more diligent about checking his mail. A member of the Wolves PR team followed Rubio out of shootaround this morning and asked if he'd received a potato in the mail. Very matter-of-factly, Rubio replied that yes, he'd received one last week before the team left for its road trip. The PR staffer then told Rubio that I wanted to talk to him about the potato.

"I didn't know what it was. There's a lot of fan mail that comes into the arena. I try to open it all, and that one was pretty funny," Rubio said.

Rubio said he couldn't remember exactly what the personalized message was, but that he has the potato at home.

Rubio added that he didn't know if other Wolves players had opened their potato packages yet, but that it was bound to be a topic of conversation soon in the locker room now that the Wolves are back home.
