CLIPPERS COMPARABLES

Steve Ballmer has agreed to purchase the Los Angeles Clippers for $2 billion, which if completed would roughly tie the sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the highest price paid for a professional sports franchise. Here is a look at some of the most expensive transactions:

$2 billion: Los Angeles Dodgers, purchased by Guggenheim Partners (led by Magic Johnson) from Frank McCourt in 2012.

$1.47 billion: Manchester United, purchased by Malcolm Glazer in a leveraged takeover from Shareholders United in 2005.

$1.1 billion: Miami Dolphins, purchased by Stephen Ross from Wayne Huizenga in 2009.

$1 billion: Cleveland Browns, purchased by Jimmy Haslam III from Randy Lerner in 2012.

$845 million: Chicago Cubs, purchased by Ricketts family from Tribune Co. in 2009.

$800 million: San Diego Padres, purchased by Ron Fowler, Seidler and O’Malley families from John Moores in 2012.

$800 million: Washington Redskins, purchased by Dan Snyder from family of the late Jack Kent Cooke in 1999.

$770 million: Jacksonville Jaguars, purchased by Shahid Khan from Wayne Weaver in 2011.

$750 million: St. Louis Rams, 60 percent of team purchased by Stan Kroenke from family of late owner Georgia Frontiere in 2010.

$700 million: Houston Texans, expansion fee paid by Bob McNair in 1999.
