Timberwolves forward Dante Cunningham was arrested early Thursday on suspicion of domestic assault.

Cunningham, 26, was apprehended by police in Medina and booked into the Hennepin County jail shortly after 6 a.m. He was being held without bail pending charges.

Cunningham and the Wolves played Wednesday night at Target Center, defeating the Memphis Grizzlies. He did not travel with the team Thursday afternoon to Miami, where Minnesota plays Friday against the Heat.

Police arrived at Cunningham's residence on Medina Road about 4 a.m. and met with a woman who also lives there who had "marks of a physical domestic [altercation]" on her body," said Police Chief Ed Belland. The woman did not require medical treatment, the chief added.

Cunningham, 6-8 and 220 pounds, left the $1.1 million home before police arrived but soon returned and "was subsequently arrested and taken into custody without incident," Belland said.

As for whether Cunningham will be in the lineup in Miami, team spokesman Brad Ruiter said, "We are not commenting one way or another in the statement about his playing status."

Dante Cunningham drove for the basket in the first half against Portland.

Flip Saunders, the team's president of basketball operations, did not return a message seeking comment.

In its statement, the team said, "We are aware of the matter involving Dante Cunningham and are in the process of gathering more information. … The Minnesota Timberwolves organization takes the matter very seriously and does not condone the type of behavior that is associated with this situation. However, we need to let the legal process run its course, and will have further comment at the appropriate time."

Cunningham is in the final year of a contract that will pay him $2.2 million this season. He will be an unrestricted free agent in July.

The fifth-year pro averages 19.8 minutes per game this season, averaging six points and four rebounds in 74 games. Cunningham played college basketball at Villanova and joined the Wolves before the 2012-13 season after playing for Portland, Charlotte and Memphis.
