Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could convince the world to love jumpsuits as much as he does. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

Thursday (The Wolves' worst nightmare game) edition: Wha' Happened?

Posted by: Michael Rand under Wolves news Updated: January 16, 2014 - 9:23 AM

We might look back on other moments in the Wolves' season as the low point when it is all said and done, but it will be tough to top a 111-108 loss to Sacramento on Wednesday in terms of sheer agony.

*Derrick Williams, the talented but flawed former No. 2 pick the Wolves traded away for a role player earlier this season, scored 16 points in a strong bench role for the Kings. Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, the player the Wolves got for Williams, did not play. Presumably he is healthy enough to go after seeing minor minutes the previous two games.

*DeMarcus Cousins, the monster big man the Wolves passed over in favor of Wes Johnson in 2010, had 20 points and 11 rebounds while limiting Nikola Pekovic to 14 points.

*Rudy Gay, often mentioned in possible trade rumors with the Wolves in previous years, poured in 33 points on just 19 field goal attempts. Corey Brewer, the Wolves' small forward with a defensive reputation, could not slow him down and only scored 12 points of his own.

*Ricky Rubio, subject of much discussion over struggles lately, had a triple-five: five points, five assists and five turnovers. He was a minus-10 for the game and sat on the bench during crunch time as Rick Adelman turned to backup J.J. Barea.

*The Barea-led lineup helped fuel a comeback, but it wasn't enough. The Wolves fell by three points, bringing that frustrating mark in games decided by four points or fewer to a staggering 0-11.

What else? The head coach sounds annoyed. The star player banged up his knee. We could go on.

Add it up, and it's more than just another loss in an 18-20 season-to-date for the Wolves.
