League MVP Kobe Bryant and forward Kevin Garnett were selected to the NBA All-Defensive Team on Monday, along with Marcus Camby, Bruce Bowen and Tim Duncan.
Garnett, who was chosen Defensive Player of the Year last month, was chosen for the ninth time.
Bryant, named for the eighth time, and Garnett each received 24 first-place votes from the league’s 30 coaches. Coaches could not vote for their own players.
Camby had a league-leading 3.61 blocked shots per game for Denver. Duncan (11th time on the team), and Bowen (eighth) play for San Antonio.

• On the subject of the infatuation with pregame basketball pyrotechnics, smoke and noise, Commissioner David Stern said he’s had enough. "I think that the noise, the fire, the smoke, is a kind of assault that we should seriously consider reviewing in whether it’s really necessary given the quality of our game," he said before the start of the Celtics-Cavaliers game.
