Jerry Zgoda missed the entire Kevin Garnett era, but he's back covering the Timberwolves after working the beat for their first four seasons two decades ago. In between, he covered a bit of everything: Gopher men's and women's basketball and NCAA athletics, golf, outdoor recreation, sports media and a little Vikings and Twins.

Love practices with Wolves for first time since Wednesday's debut

Kevin Love said he was feeling good after practice today in Oakland, his first contact one with the team since he made his surprise season debut on Wednesday against Denver.

Feeling good because he was drenched in sweat after a full 90-minute workout that followed a 40-minute team film session.

Feeling good because he went today without that padded, fingerless glove that he wore on his healing shooting hand until midway through the fourth quarter of Saturday's 96-85 loss at Golden State.

That's when he ripped the glove off and threw toward the photographers seated beyond the baseline on a night when he finished 6-for-20 from the field, 1 for 5 on threes and 2 for 4 from the foul line.

He said last week that expected to wear the padding until January probably to protect that hand with which Love has returned probably two to three weeks early.

On Monday he sounded like a guy ready to play on without it.

"It's prohibiting me, it's just not natural," he said after practice.

Rick Adelman said after practice that it's clear Love's conditioning, his timing and his shot just aren't back yet and suggested Love's teammates probably deferred to him too much in Saturday's fourth quarter when they should have moved the ball better.

They went over that -- and pick-and-roll defense -- as well during that 40-minute film session before today's practice.

Adelman said Andrei Kirilenko, Malcolm Lee and J.J. Barea are were feeling banged up today so they took it easy.

That left him playing Dante Cunningham and Derrick Williams against each other at small forward -- remember they were exclusively power forwards until Love came back -- during 5-on-5 scrimmages today.

Ricky Rubio was with the team in Oakland this season and is scheduled to fly to Vail, Colo., tonight for his last scheduled checkup with knee surgeon Dr. Richard Steadman.

If all goes well, he could be cleared for practice when the team returns from this four-game Western trip after Wednesday's game against the Clippers in Los Angeles.

The Wolves showered after practice at Oracle Arena this afternoon and then bused to Sacramento for Tuesday night's game against the Kings that has won two of their last three -- including a 16-point victory over the Lakers -- after starting 2-8.
