Jerry Zgoda missed the entire Kevin Garnett era, but he's back covering the Timberwolves after working the beat for their first four seasons two decades ago. In between, he covered a bit of everything: Gopher men's and women's basketball and NCAA athletics, golf, outdoor recreation, sports media and a little Vikings and Twins.

Team: Roy out a month after "successful" knee surgery

Posted by: Jerry Zgoda under Wolves injury report, Wolves news Updated: November 19, 2012 - 11:58 PM

Brandon Roy underwent today what the Wolves called arthroscopic knee surgery that it says will sideline him for a month.

Team doctor David Fischer performed the surgery in Bloomington.

The Wolves offered no other details about an exploratory operation intended to clean up his right knee and perhaps give him peace of mind.

He'll miss, of course, what was supposed to be his return to Portland and the Rose Garden -- where he played his first five NBA seasons -- on Friday.

Rick Adelman didn't sound certain if this was just a pause in Roy's comeback or if it's something much more.

"From the very start you knew it was going to be up and down," he said before today's surgery. "It's too bad it's this. But I think he feels like this is worth doing, making sure everything's all right. You just have to go with it and hopefully when it's over with, he'll be able to come back."

A couple other quick things:

* Nikola Pekovic practiced fully today for the second consecutive day and he fully intends to play Wednesday against Denver.

When asked if he expects big Pek will play, Adelman said, "He better."

* J.J. Barea did not practice today -- other than some 5-on-0 shooting -- and Adelman did not sound optimistic that he'd play Wednesday, even though Adelman said Barea says he wants to play.

Barea hasn't practiced or played in nearly two weeks because of that mid-foot sprain sustained when he chased a loose ball into the scorer's table with the Wolves up 20 points in the fourth quarter against Orlando.
