Batum, Roy still top wish list for Wolves

The team has conducted several discussions but reached no agreements with free agents they are coveting.

Portland restricted free agent Nicolas Batum visited the Timberwolves on Sunday night and Monday, but left town without yet agreeing to a rich offer from the Wolves, who have made the 6-8 swingman and veteran guard Brandon Roy their top free-agent targets so far.

Batum can reach an agreement with a team now, but cannot sign an offer sheet until July 11. If the Wolves sign him to a four-year offer that could approach $50 million, the Blazers would have three days to match the offer, or until July 14.

Comcast SportsNet in Portland reported Batum will meet with the Blazers on Thursday or Friday. If he is intent on playing for the Wolves, the two teams could reach a sign-and-trade deal in which the Wolves would send players and/or draft picks to Portland for Batum, 23.

Los Angeles Lakers power forward Jordan Hill also visited the Wolves on Monday.

Boston Celtics restricted free agent Greg Stiemsma visited Sunday. His agent expects to talk with the Wolves again Tuesday. Stiemsma -- who signed a contract with the Wolves in 2010 but never played a regular-season game for them -- withdrew Monday from the USA Select Team that will train next week against the U.S. Olympic team because he is battling plantar fasciitis in his foot.

The Wolves remain interested in acquiring veteran Lakers forward Pau Gasol and also have had free-agent discussions with guards Jamal Crawford, Lou Williams and Alexey Shved.

Wolves owner Glen Taylor, president of basketball operations David Kahn, coach Rick Adelman and athletic trainer Gregg Farnam met with Roy in Seattle on Friday. He is expected to meet with Dallas, Chicago, Indiana and Golden State before making a decision where to make an attempted comeback after he retired last winter because of bad knees.
