Kevin Love and the magic of barbering.
Bring back the '70s! Twitter image posted by Kevin Love after getting a haircut and keeping his mustache.
Whether out of curiosity, boredom or coincidence, Wolves star Kevin Love has shown off three very different looks in the past few weeks. Since we are nothing if not fashionable, here is a breakdown of all three:
The look: Full, bushy beard and mustache to go with slightly unkempt but not wildly overgrown hair.
Pros: Love was enjoying a dominant All-Star season (and was a dark-horse MVP candidate before the Wolves fell apart). His impressive play seemed to peak in March as his beard grew, possibly giving him the life-sustaining strength to average 30.7 ppg and 13.9 rpg for the month. ... Also, the beard makes him look as though he could legally order a drink (Love is 23).
Cons: That beard got plenty sweaty. Even watching on TV, you wanted to wring it out sometimes.
The quote: "David Kahn doesn't like it, so I'll keep it." -- Love in early February on his decision to let his beard grow.
The look: Haircut plus mustache-only facial hair.
Pros: Love tweeted out a picture of his new look last Thursday, writing "What do you think of my new haircut?" It was the mustache, though, that caused most of a stir and probably did these jobs for a lot of people: Alleviating boredom and adding a moment of levity to a frustrating stretch for the Wolves. This includes Love, who was idled with symptoms from a concussion.
Cons: Love's sister, Emily, tweeted pictures of mustached Kevin and their dad, former NBA player Stan Love, side-by-side and the resemblance was striking. Not that we don't love the '70s, but ...
The quote: "That's terrible, but I hope he keeps it." -- Teammate Anthony Tolliver on the mustache.
The look: Clean-shaven, with significantly more hair volume.
Pros: There were some detractors on Twitter, but some fans called him "cute" and/or "hot." Plus, he no longer looks like he's from the '70s, nor does he have to worry about undue sweat. So he's got that going for him, which is nice.
Cons: Take away all the fur and you realize what a babyface Love has. Combined with the hair, he looks a little like the Screech character from "Saved By The Bell."
The quote: "He looks like he's about 12 years old. I don't think anybody recognized him." -- Wolves coach Rick Adelman.
