"I want to know what they're saying," the Wolves coach said of Spanish-speaking point guards Ricky Rubio and J.J. Barea.
MANKATO - New Timberwolves guard J.J. Barea practiced for the first time Thursday, teaming with Ricky Rubio during a scrimmage.
It's a small, speedy, Spanish-speaking backcourt that Wolves fans might see a lot this season.
Well, maybe scratch that last bit.
"I'm trying to deny them speaking anything but English," Wolves coach Rick Adelman said dryly. "I want to know what they're saying."
Adelman said he has been through this before with Vlade Divac and Peja Stojakovic when he coached in Sacramento.
Now he has Barea and Rubio as well as Serbian-speaking Darko Milicic and Nikola Pekovic here in Minnesota.
"I had to do that with Vlade and Peja," he said. "They speak English out here so I know they're not talking behind my back."
Rubio apparently hasn't gotten the memo yet.
"He didn't say that to me," Rubio said, smiling. "We're talking English on court and outside we can talk Spanish."
