Randy Foye dunked the ball Thursday. Not a big deal, right? Wrong. It was his first in more than two months and further proof to him that his chances of playing soon are soaring.
Foye, recovering from a stress reaction in his left kneecap that dates to the NBA summer league, has yet to play this season. On Monday he is scheduled to have the knee re-examined. And, unlike the last checkup three weeks ago, this time he expects to be cleared to play.
"I already know it will be better," Foye said Friday. He is feeling soreness but says he thinks it's the simple aches and pains of having returned to running.
"I ran today," he said. "I've been running for a while. And I feel good. And I didn't lose as much wind as I thought I would lose."
Foye has struggled with having to watch as the Wolves stumbled to a 2-15 start. He can hardly wait to help. He figures if he is cleared on Monday it would take a week's worth of practice to get back into a game.
"Everyone thinks they can help their team when it's struggling," he said. "I think one of the things I could help with on the team is my toughness and my will to never give up and keep fighting. ... I have to fit in with those guys. I have to be able to come back and take one step at a time. I'm not in a rush but I want to win."
About that dunk. The last time was Sept. 3. Foye remembers it because he had just had two days off while filming a TV commercial.
