Ryan Gomes

It's all in the details, and he's all about that.

Last update: November 1, 2007 - 6:18 PM

So how will you know if Ryan Gomes is doing what the Wolves want? Oh, he'll score a bit, but don't use that as a gauge. As a forward he'll be expected to rebound, but that's not the end-all. So what then? "I can put the ball in the basket, and I can rebound the ball, and I can make plays, but I stand out by doing the little things," Gomes explained. "Setting a good screen. Making a play that sets up the play. What I do might not show up in the boxscore." But doing the little things ensures he'll be in the boxscore a lot. The Wolves want him to learn both forward positions, which means he'll have to defend both on the perimeter and in the post. But mainly he's going to get a big chance to do the little things. "Maybe it's making the right pass so the next guy gets the assist," he said. "Being in the right rotation to cause a turnover. Things like that." He's just 25, but he sounds older than his years. "Maybe I am," he said. "And that's a compliment. But I don't want to get old too fast."
