• Houston center Dikembe Mutombo, 41, signed a one-year contract to remain with the team, extending his career to a 17th season. Mutumbo said this would be his last year in the league, team spokesman Nelson Luis said.

• Detroit exercised its option to extend forward Jason Maxiell's contract through the 2008-09 season and signed guard Gerald Fitch. Maxiell was drafted with the 26th pick overall in 2005 and is expected to play a key role in Detroit this season.

• Suns forward Amare Stoudemire will undergo minor arthroscopic surgery on his right knee today but is expected to be sidelined only two to three weeks.

• Golden State signed guard Tierre Brown and forwards Pat Burke and Carlos Powell on Monday before the club left for training camp in Hawaii.

• New Orleans signed free agents Ryan Bowen, Trey Johnson and Anthony Richardson. Bowen, a 6-9 forward, is a seven-year NBA veteran who has spent time with Denver and Houston. Most recently, he played for the Timberwolves' summer league team in Las Vegas, where he averaged 5.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in five games.
