Ovechkin is 'week-to-week' after injury

Alex Ovechkin is "week-to-week" with an upper-body injury, the Washington Capitals said Monday. The two-time league MVP suffered an "upper-body strain" in Sunday's overtime loss to Columbus.

Ovechkin had an MRI and will travel with the team while receiving treatment. He has missed only four games -- and just two because of injury -- since coming to the NHL in 2005. He led the league in goals (14) and points (23) through Sunday's games.

• COYOTES SALE APPROVED: A judge has approved the sale of the bankrupt Phoenix Coyotes to the NHL. The league's bid totals about $140 million. The official figure listed in the sale order is $128.4 million, but that does not include the $11.6 million the NHL has agreed to spend to purchase claims of nearly all the unsecured creditors in the case.

Flyers blitz Lightning; Gagne out six to eight weeks

• PHILADELPHIA 6, TAMPA BAY 2: Mike Richards and Jeff Carter scored two goals apiece, leading the host Flyers to the win over the Lightning. The Flyers won for the fourth time in the past six games, but also learned star winger Simon Gagne will miss six to eight weeks.

• N.Y. ISLANDERS 3, EDMONTON 1: Brendan Witt posted his first two-goal game in the NHL, forward Doug Weight added two assists and the host Islanders stretched their winning streak to a season-high four games with the victory over the Oilers.

• LOS ANGELES 5, PHOENIX 3: Drew Doughty scored the go-ahead goal with 4:51 remaining, and the Kings rallied to beat the host Coyotes, who saw a three-game winning streak stopped.
