Gophers freshman defenseman Nick Leddy is expected to be out for six weeks because of a broken jaw. Leddy was injured late in the first period of the Gophers' 5-1 victory over Alaska Anchorage on Friday at Mariucci Arena.
Leddy had just taken a shot from near the blue line when 6-3, 207-pound Seawolves forward Jade Portwood hit him. Leddy had to be helped off the ice and did not return.
Leddy was named Mr. Hockey in 2009 after leading Eden Prairie High School to the Class 2A state title. The Wild took him with the 16th overall pick in the first round of the NHL draft in June.
The Gophers and Alaska Anchorage meet at 4 p.m. today in the second game of their series.
