The Wild is on the lookout for a new coach for its minor league affiliate after Derek Lalonde was hired Thursday by the Lightning to be an assistant coach.
Lalonde was head coach of Iowa in the American Hockey League for the past two seasons, guiding the team to a 69-58-17-8 record in that time. He became the first coach in Iowa history to secure a winning season after the team went 36-31-7-2 in 2016-17, and Iowa posted records for wins, home wins, road wings, fewest losses and total points in a season with Lalonde at the helm.
Internal and external candidates will be considered in the search for a replacement.
