Neal’s goal drought ends in nick of time

– James Neal’s first goal in nine games came 3 minutes, 5 seconds into overtime Monday and gave the Pittsburgh Penguins a 2-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators.

The Penguins won for the 16th time in 17 home games and are 23-4 at Consol Energy Center.

Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 24 shots, including a glove-save robbery of Erik Karlsson, in his league-leading 30th victory. Ottawa’s Craig Anderson turned aside 46 shots.

Sidney Crosby’s streak of scoreless games reached five.

• WOES OUT WEST: Pacific Division leaders Anaheim and San Jose both stumbled at home. The Ducks lost 4-2 to the Columbus Blue Jackets, who have a 14-game unbeaten streak, and the Sharks gave up four third-period goals — three in the first 4 minutes — in a 5-2 loss to the Flyers.

• BETTER LATE FOR AVS: The Colorado Avalanche tied the host New Jersey Devils on a goal with 1:47 left in regulation, then won it 2-1 on Ryan O’Reilly’s power-play score 28 seconds into overtime.

• SUB FOR SOCHI: Detroit’s Gustav Nyquist will replace injured Red Wings teammate Johan Franzen on Sweden’s Olympic team. Franzen, a 2010 Olympian, was declared out because of a concussion.
