Veteran winger Dany Heatley will miss the rest of the season, including likely the playoffs, General Manager Chuck Fletcher said Tuesday night.

Heatley underwent shoulder surgery Tuesday morning at the Cleveland Clinic. Fletcher said the hope was that Heatley would miss four or five weeks, but surgeon Tony Miniaci informed the team that Heatley likely will miss the rest of the season.

He is expected to be ready in time for the 2013-14 campaign. Heatley has one year left on his contract at a $7.5 million cap hit and $5 million salary.

Heatley, who has scored 11 goals and 21 points in 36 games, was injured during an altercation last Wednesday in San Jose with defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic. Rookie Charlie Coyle has taken Heatley's spot on the third line and second power-play unit.
