Two Minnesotans have been added to the U.S. men's national hockey team, which will compete in next month's International Ice Hockey World Championship.
New to the roster are forward Zach Parise and defenseman Paul Martin.
Parise, of the New Jersey Devils, played prep hockey at Shattuck-St. Mary's in Faribault before moving on to the University of North Dakota.
Martin played high school hockey at Elk River and then for the University of Minnesota.
Other Minnesotans on the roster, with their current team in parentheses: Tom Gilbert, Bloomington (Edmonton Oilers); Keith Ballard, Baudette (Phoenix Coyotes); David Backes, Spring Lake Park (St. Louis Blues); and Peter Mueller, Bloomington (Phoenix Coyotes). Drew Stafford (Buffalo Sabres) of Milwaukee, who played at Shattuck, is also on the squad.
The IIHP World Championship runs from May 2-18 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Quebec City.
