THREE STARS

1. Joe Sakic, Avalanche: He set up Colorado's first goal, saved the puck in the zone during a power play to help set up the second, and he scored the game-winner.

2. Jose Theodore, Avalanche: He stopped a Brent Burns shot after Burns made a great move to turn a 2-on-1 into a last-second 1-on-0.

3. Todd Fedoruk, Wild: The bruiser looked pretty skilled putting the puck high on the backhand for the third-period, game-tying goal.

TURNING POINT

It looked like it would be Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom's stunning stop of a Ryan Smyth penalty shot with 2:27 remaining in regulation. But instead it was Joe Sakic's tip-in, his eighth playoff OT goal, that sent the Avalanche to a heart-pounding victory in Game 1.

NUMBERS

1 Penalty shot attempts against the Wild in the playoffs in franchise history.

2-4 The Wild's record in playoff overtimes. It had not played in a playoff OT since May 10, 2003, Game 1 of the Western Conference finals vs. Anaheim (a 1-0 loss in double overtime).
