Mike Modano, who has more NHL career points than any other American, will be honored at the Wild home game vs. the Dallas Stars Thursday night for that feat.
Modano started his career in Minnesota, playing his first four seasons with the Minnesota North Stars. The franchise moved to Dallas for the 1993-94 season, and the 37-year-old has remained with that one team ever since.
Modano, a three-time U.S. Olympian, climbed to the top of NHL scoring among Americans earlier this year, passing Minnesotan and South St. Paul native Phil Housley.
Heading into Thursday's game, Modano has 522 goals (also first among Americans), 741 assists and 1,263 points in 1,295 career games. His most productive year while in Minnesota was in 1992-93 (33 goals, 60 assists).
Special guests for Thursday's pregame ceremony at the Xcel Energy Center will include Housley, former Minnesota Wild Brad Bombardir and former Minnesota North Stars player, coach and general manager Lou Nanne. It was Nanne, as general manager, who made Modano the first player chosen in the 1988 NHL entry draft.
