Wild-Montreal game preview

  • Updated: February 29, 2012 - 11:00 PM

Preview: Coming off a 4-0 home loss to L.A., and with playoff hopes dwindling, the Wild starts a difficult back-to-back, two-game road trip that will end in Detroit on Friday night. Montreal is slumping, having lost five in a row and scoring just five goals in the process.

Players to watch: LW Dany Heatley has 50 points in 40 career games vs. Montreal. C Matt Cullen has 23 points in 32 games. G Niklas Backstrom is 1-1-0 in three games (two starts) vs. Montreal. Canadiens C David Desharnais has 11 points in his past 10 games.

Numbers: Montreal defeated the Wild 8-1 on March 20 of last season, the most goals ever scored by an opponent in a Wild home game.

Injuries: Wild LW Guillaume Latendresse (concussion), RW Pierre-Marc Bouchard (concussion), RW Jarod Palmer (concussion), D Clayton Stoner (lower body), C Mikko Koivu (shoulder) and D Mike Lundin (lower body) are out. Montreal LW Travis Moen (upper body), RW Brian Gionta (right biceps surgery), RW Mike Blunden (knee surgery) and D Andrei Markov (right knee surgery) are all on injured reserve. LW Mathieu Darche (dizziness/upper body) is doubtful.
