The New York Islanders scored two goals in the first period and held on for a 2-1 victory pver the Wild on Monday afternoon in Uniondale, N.Y.

Matt Cullen scored the Wild's goal 1:13 into the third period, but the Wild couldn't get untracked afte pulling the goalie with 1:40 to play.

As his right, Pierre-Marc Bouchard appealed his two-game suspension this morning -- a move that rarely happens in the NHL and a move that certainly rarely turns into an overturn.

Whatever you think of the suspension, Commissioner Gary Bettman was not going to publicly overrule Brendan Shanahan's -- his new discipline czar -- decision. So the 11 a.m. hearing proved fruitless.

So Bouchard sits two games.
