Wild-Edmonton gameday

  • Updated: February 22, 2011 - 7:29 AM

Preview: The Wild, 5-1-1 in its past seven at home, has won 14 consecutive home games against the Oilers by a combined 50-18 score. The streak is the second longest of its kind in the NHL (Nashville over Columbus, 15).

Players to watch: Oiler Taylor Hall, the No. 1 pick in the 2010 draft who had been in a slump, broke out in a 5-3 victory over Atlanta by becoming the first rookie since Brad Boyes (Boston) to record a natural hat trick. He had nine shots in the game, an NHL high this year. RW Ales Hemsky, named the NHL's Third Star of the Week on Monday, has nine points in his past five games. Wild G Niklas Backstrom's 12-0 home mark against Edmonton is the longest current home winning streak vs. one team by a goalie. Overall, he's 6-3-1 since Jan. 19 with a 1.49 goals-against average and .952 save percentage.

Numbers: The Oilers rank 27th in goals per game, 28th in goals against, 30th on the power play and 29th on the penalty kill. ... Ten of the 17 goals scored in the season series between the teams have been scored on the power play (Wild 6).

Injuries: Wild C Mikko Koivu (broken finger) and LW Guillaume Latendresse (sports hernia, hip) are out. Oilers D Ryan Whitney (ankle) is out.
