Became the seventh player in NHL history to win the Hart Trophy (MVP), Art Ross Trophy (leading scorer) and Lester Pearson Trophy (Outstanding Player as voted by NHLPA members) in the same season.
As an 18-year-old rookie, he broke Mario Lemieux's Penguins rookie records with 63 assists and 102 points, the youngest player in NHL history to hit 100 points.
Named Penguins captain on May 31, 2007, the youngest captain in NHL history (Brian Bellows was younger when the North Stars named him captain in 1984 to replace an injured Craig Hartsburg, but that was only temporary).
