The Wild is scheduled to land in Calgary at 2:05 p.m. Central time today, five minutes after the NHL's trade deadline passes. There's a chance when that plane pulls up to the terminal, some players will discover they're staying there.
"A couple years ago, we [the New York Islanders] flew into Vancouver on the day of the deadline," Wild captain Mark Parrish said. "When we landed, we found out [Chris Osgood, Brad Isbister and Raffi Torres] had been traded. ... Everybody here has been through it."
With chemistry coming together for the surging Wild and General Manager Doug Risebrough determined to "see this group grow," it's doubtful a big shakeup is coming today. But with the Wild in search of a depth at forward and/or defense, here are some ideas by Star Tribune hockey writer Michael Russo:
Player Team Pos. Age
Kevyn Adams Phoenix C 32
Faceoff stud helped Carolina win Cup last year; also is tenacious forechecker (right) Ø
Yanic Perreault Phoenix C 35
Is on verge of leading the NHL in faceoff win percentage for the sixth year in a row
Sheldon Souray Montreal D 30
Cannon from the point; he leads NHL blue-liners with 22 goals
Martin Gelinas Florida LW 36
Checking forward has four Stanley Cup Finals appearances under his belt
Aaron Miller Los Angeles D 35
Could add muscle and blocked shots to the back end
Other options: Atlanta C Niko Kapanen (waivers), N.Y. Rangers D Aaron Ward, Colorado RW Ian Laperriere, Washington C Dainius Zubrus, N.Y. Islanders LW/C Jason Blake
