What a game! The Vikings had only one focus … defeating the Packers!

Brett Favre said he was as nervous as he's ever been. I fully expected that to be the case, since he played with the Packers for so long. He mentioned in an interview how he prayed he would make the right decisions. Well, it worked. Favre's former teammates knew his tendencies. As I watched the game, I noticed he would fake throw to the left then hit his prime target in the middle. His performance was outstanding. One thing is clear: Favre has proven, beyond a shadow of doubt by the way he played last night, that he still loves the game.

I give credit to the Vikings offensive line. They should be given the game ball … period. They protected Favre flawlessly, allowing him to complete the game without being touched, let alone sacked. There was one particular down where he had more than seven seconds in the pocket, something that is nearly unheard of!

Adrian Peterson was shut down, but that didn't stop us. It's times like that when a team needs to turn to its passing game, and that is exactly what the Vikings did. Utilizing every receiver, like Favre did, is another display of a great quarterback.

Our special teams played out of their heads. Benny Sapp made a huge impact on punt coverage, the biggest being that he kept the ball from going into the end zone, and it is was downed on the 1-yard line. In my opinion, that was the turning point with 8:49 left in the third quarter.

The officials missed a safety call. Thankfully, Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy threw a red flag on the play, and we got it anyhow. The other play that was awesome was the punt return by Jamar Johnson. Sidney Rice came through with clutch plays by leaping high in the air to recover the two onside kicks. Had those gone to Green Bay, the outcome of the game might have been very different.

I can't say enough about the Vikings defense. I'll keep it short and sweet. Incredible. There were five guys from Green Bay who went down with injuries. Our defense was hitting hard and intense, which is typical in a Monday night game. Jared Allen was out of his mind! If he keeps going the way he is, he can be the defensive MVP in the NFL. Antoine Winfield was steady. For those of you who are old enough to recall, I see him as a cross between Bobby Bryant and Nate Wright all rolled into one. Winfield will go to his second Pro Bowl for sure. If he doesn't, there is something wrong. Ben Leber made the tackle of the night by stopping Green Bay on the 1-yard line during a third-quarter goal-line stand. In the first quarter, Allen forced a fumble that the Vikings recovered, stopping the Packers' first drive. Kevin Williams made Rodgers throw the ball even when he didn't want to. I can go on and on but it's the plays like this that make the defense solid.

To wrap things up, I didn't see very many Packers fans in the stadium. That was so nice to see. One thing that was fascinating is that it felt like a college team atmosphere to me. The fans stood most of the game, cheering and rooting on their team.

Not only are we 4-0 overall but we are 2-0 in our division, which is something I would look at coming from a players point of view, being more important. That's a great place to be in this point of the season.

It's a short week. Now it's time to recover and get ready for the Rams.
