The former Gophers standout was involved in a fight with center Joe Hawley.
Atlanta Falcons rookie defensive end Ra’Shede Hageman does not have a fractured wrist stemming from his fight with center Joe Hawley, and the former Gophers standout practiced Monday.
Falcons coach Mike Smith said Monday that Hageman had X-rays but did not elaborate on the injury. Hageman, a second-round pick, left Sunday’s practice after hurting his wrist. He threw a punch at Hawley and later told people close to him his wrist was fractured, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Smith vowed Sunday that the fights must end. That was before Hawley was involved in another fight during Monday’s combined practice against the Titans. Tennessee cornerbacks Tommie Campbell and Coty Sensabaugh also were involved in the altercation only about 20 minutes into the combined practice.
Running back Wilson forced to retire
New York Giants running back David Wilson’s NFL career is over after two seasons because of a neck injury. The 23-year-old former first-round pick was told by doctors that he risked more serious problems if he kept playing.
He underwent fusion surgery to repair vertebrae and a herniated disk in his neck in January. Then at practice last week, Wilson caught a pass and ran with his head down into the back of an offensive lineman, a hit that caused numbness in his hands and lower extremities.
• Chicago Bears second-year wide receiver Marquess Wilson is out indefinitely after breaking his collarbone in practice Monday. Wilson was in a battle for the No. 3 wide receiver position behind Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, but he was injured diving for a deep pass in scrimmage. Coach Marc Trestman said coaches normally do not encourage players to dive for passes during practice due to the injury risk.
• Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton signed a six-year extension, but the financial terms were not released. According to multiple reports, the deal is worth up to $115 million. “We’re betting big on him because we believe in him,” Bengals owner Mike Brown said of the fourth-year pro.
• Denver running back Montee Ball is sidelined by appendicitis and isn’t expected back until the Broncos’ opener Sept. 7. Ball had an appendectomy Monday.
