MANKATO -- Vikings players leaving practice knew the questions were coming, but they almost universally said they had no answers regarding Brett Favre.

Multiple sources said Favre texted teammates and team officials on Monday night informing them that he has decided to retire. But the players offered little insight when asked after practice.

Here is some reaction from various players this morning:

Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson: "I haven't heard anything about it. I'm not looking at it any different. I'm still going to show up and work hard every day. If something happens, we'll see. ... It's always back and forth with Brett. It's a decision. He deserves the opportunity to decide when he's going to retire or not, whether he wants to retire or not. It's up to him. Right now, I'm just trying to focus on getting better."

Defensive end Jared Allen: "I plead the fifth on everything. I love Brett and he reserves the right to do what he wants to do. We obviously love him as a teammate. We'd like to have him back. But until it's official, I'll believe it when I see it. Right now we're just going to focus on who we have right here. Just like we always do."

Allen: "I still hope we see him in a couple of weeks. But the sun is going to rise tomorrow and we're going to have football whether Brett is here or not. We welcome him back, but 20 years he reserves the right to do what he wants to do with it. Right now we have Tarvaris and Sage working and everyone else is working. We played football without him once before. If we have to do it again, we'll do it again.

Allen: "Hopefully we'll see him when we get back to Winter Park. If it doesn't happen, he had a great career. I enjoyed being his teammate and actually enjoyed playing against him as well."

Center John Sullivan: "We have the highest expectations no matter what. As of now, nothing's changed. We fully expect to be the team that we've always expected to be. For now we're just trying to get better every day."

Jackson: "It's been about three years now I've been getting asked the Brett Favre questions. It's kind of part of my life now. I actually might miss it. Like I said, it's his decision. He deserves however long he takes to make the decision. It's on him and I'm just going to come out here and try to get better."

Wide receiver Bernard Berrian: "Expectations are going to stay the same whether Brett's playing or not. They're still high. Expectations are Super Bowl." Kicker Ryan Longwell: "The last couple of weeks, he's been on both sides of the fence, like all of us old guys. He's getting closer to a decision. I told him about the free buffet at the Pizza Ranch, and he said he¹d be on the next flight."
