Peterson: Contract not an issue

Judd worked the red carpet Sunday afternoon at the Starkey Hearing Foundation event in St. Paul and was able to talk to Vikings running back Adrian Peterson for a few minutes.
Peterson told Judd that he did not miss the team's mandatory minicamp in June because he's unhappy with his contract. Peterson said the annual "Adrian Peterson Day" parade held in his hometown in Texas was scheduled before the minicamp so that is why he missed the camp.
Peterson said he will be at training camp when it opens on Friday.
"Oh yeah I'll be there," he said. "Without a shadow of a doubt. Whether there is contract talk or not, I will be there."
There has been lots of speculation that Peterson wants a new contract. Drafted No. 7 overall in 2007, he received a six-year contract that would pay him a maximum of $40 million if he reached all of the incentives. The sixth year will void, meaning the contract really runs through the 2011 season.
Judd asked Peterson if he wants a new contract.
"Do I want a new contract?" Peterson said. "Anytime you're dealing with a business .... you've got the business side to it and you've got your side when you've got to go out and perform. With that being said, I focus on what I have to do and that's prepare myself for the season and I let my agents take care of everything else. I am excited about training camp and I'm ready to get going. I'm sure I'm more pumped up than the coaches. Just excited."
Peterson also told Judd that his agent and the Vikings have talked about a contract extension. It's unclear how in-depth those talks are or how far along the process is.
"As a businessman you're going to do on both sides what's best for you," Peterson said.
